Spalding Cemetery - Additional Change of Opening Hours

Decision Maker: Executive Director - Commercialisation (S151)

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Cemetery opening (currently summer hours) is extended to
Monday – Friday 9am-6:30pm
Weekends 10am to 6:30pm
from 18th May on the basis of people adhering to government guidance on distancing and restrictions on movement.
(Changes to previous hours are the movement of opening an hour later on weekends)
That Summer and Winter hours align with the moving forward and back of the clock to the following;
Summer closing at 6:30pm
Winter closing 4:30pm
Opening hours will remain 9am weekdays and 10am weekend through both seasonal hours.
Comms to be released which clearly state expectations on behaviour in cemetery including being respectful of funerals taking place and any breach of this would result in closure again

Reasons for the decision:

Seeking to extend Spalding Cemetery hours following the decision in April to reopen in light of changes to regulations. Opening hours were reduced compared to the usual hours of operation to ensure staff are available whilst maintaining the cemetery to monitor for correct use.
There have been no reported incidents since the opening so looking to increase hours to where they were except a small alteration to previous weekend hours which will be 10am from 9am
•Reduced hours were recommended so that we can have staff in the cemetery during this time and can monitor the adherence to the regulations.
•With no additional issues identified during the last few weeks, we are requesting that we increase the hours back to where they were before closure, with a small exception;
- Aligning hours with clocks changing will make attendance at cemetery safer

Alternative options considered:

Consideration was given to leaving the cemetery hours as they are or closing them again but this was not deemed appropriate given that we have not seen re-occurrences of anti-social behaviour.
