To seek approval for new fleet vehicles for housing repairs
That the contract is awarded to Stellantis UK for the purchase of 12 Vans within the Housing Repairs team for a contract value of £425,386 from the approved capital budget.
Maintenance of our Council Homes is a key delivery area within our Housing Landlord function and is a high demand service that operates all year round, 24 hours a day. Therefore, ensuring we have a reliable and cost-effective vehicle fleet to deliver an efficient and effective service to our customers is vital.
Following a value for money exercise, it was determined that purchasing a fleet of vehicles was more cost effective than leasing. Additionally the current fleet no longer benefits from a warranty and therefore, to maintain economic viability and avoid increasing vehicle maintenance and running costs that would be required to keep the current fleet operational it is recommended to proceed with the proposal.
Option 1 - Do nothing and retain the existing fleet. This is not considered a viable option as the maintenance on the current fleet, due to its age and mileage will only increase with the risk of serious mechanical defects potentially leading to significant spend on repairs, servicing and MOTs – Option not recommended.
Option 2 – Consideration was given to an electric or hybrid fleet. Presently this was not considered viable due to the payload and range an electric fleet offers as well as initial capital costs – this is detailed in the report below – Option not Recommended.
