The South East Lincolnshire Joint Strategic Planning Committee
is a new separate statutory local planning authority made up of 3
members from each of the partner authorities, namely: South Holland
District Council, Boston Borough Council and Lincolnshire County
Council.
THE SOUTH
HOLLAND LOCAL PLAN AND ITS REPLACEMENT
The South Holland
Local Plan, adopted by South Holland District Council in July 2006,
is the local planning-policy document that is currently used to
inform decisions on planning applications. It covers the period up
to 2021.
Following decisions
made by South Holland District Council (SHDC), Boston Borough
Council (BBC) and Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) late last year,
it was agreed that these three authorities would submit an
application to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local
Government seeking the establishment of a South East Lincolnshire
Joint Strategic Planning Committee (Joint Committee) for the
purpose of preparing joint planning-policy documents for the areas
of SHDC and BBC. Together, these joint policy documents would form
the ‘South East Lincolnshire Local Plan’. Once
finalised, the South East Lincolnshire Local Plan would replace the
saved policies in the current South Holland Local Plan and the
Boston Borough Local Plan.
An application to the
Secretary of State was submitted in January of this year and on the
15th June a Parliamentary Order establishing the Joint Committee
was laid before Parliament (ref. The South East Lincolnshire Joint
Strategic Planning Committee Order 2011 [SI: 2011 No.1455]). This
Order came into force on 5th July 2011.
The first meeting of
the newly-established Joint Committee took place on Friday, 9th
September 2011.

NB: South Holland District Council and Boston Borough Council
will retain their status as separate local planning authorities for
the determination of planning applications relating to development
proposals in their respective areas.
